Studying the Impact of the Exposome by StratiCELL
1 December 2020
The skin exposome is defined as the overall detrimental aggressions on our skin. Although long limited to urban pollution alone, we now know that the exposome extends, among other things, to damage caused by solar radiation. The exposome influences the pigmentation of our skin, raises the level of oxidation and increases inflammation. When the natural processes of cell protection and repair are weakened, toxins persist, spots appear and the skin ages prematurely. These harmful effects being reproducible in vitro, StratiCELL used them to develop various skin models mimicking excess radiation and pollutants. Their advantages? A complete and in-depth approach for revealing protective and repairing effects of dermo-cosmetic ingredients:
- The exposome is indeed represented by doses of infrared or ultraviolet (UV) type A or B, combined or not with urban pollutants (UbD) or cigarette smoke hydrocarbons;
- Moreover, the scientific objectivation approach proposed covers both the impact of the ingredient on the expression of specific genes and the functionality of biomarkers associated with inflammation, oxidation, detoxification and remodelling of the skin.
