WENEOS, expertise center for the evaluation of sun protection

17 October 2024

Since its creation in 1999, WENEOS (formerly known as HelioScreen) has established itself as the international expertise center specializing in the evaluation of sun protection for cosmetic products. As a leader in the development of alternative solar testing methods, WENEOS is actively involved in the elaboration of international solar protection standards, demonstrating our commitment to research, innovation and the continuous improvement of our testing processes.

Our expertise center developed the Helioplate PMMA Molded HD6 and Sandblasted SB6 substrates, the robotic spreading device SPREADMASTER and the temperature control device THERMASTER, which all comply with current standards (ISO, FDA, etc.). It is also an official distributor of Solar Light (UV simulator, HDRS devices) in Europe. The laboratory offers many tests to meet your needs: official tests according to the latest methods and standards in force (ISO 24443:2021, ISO/DIS 23675, ISO 23698, FDA 2011) as well as specific methods (Blue Light, Infrared, UVA Long, Sweat Resistance, Sand Resistance).

Starting in January 2025, WENEOS will launch a new service dedicated to evaluating cosmetic products’ sun protection using the HDRS (Hybrid Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy) method, in accordance with ISO/DIS 23698. HDRS is a new method that enables clinical tests to be carried out to assess SPF, UVAPF and Critical WaveLength (CWL) while eliminating erythematous and/or pigmented skin reactions, representing a major ethical advance in sun protection testing. This innovative method solution guarantees precise and reproducible results and allows you to validate the UV performance of your sunscreen products with great efficiency.
