CIDP and Microfactory revolutionize foundation evaluation

17 October 2023

CIDP and Microfactory combine their expertise to revolutionize foundation evaluation.

Phoenix, Mauritius – 10/10/2023 – The CIDP (International Center for Pharmaceutical Development), a leading player in the cosmetic clinical research sector, and Microfactory, an innovative start-up specializing in the evaluation of cosmetics, proudly announce their strategic partnership. This collaboration marks a major milestone in the beauty industry and coincides with their participation in the upcoming Cosmetic 360 show, which will take place at the Carrousel du Louvre, in Paris, from October 18th to 19th, 2023..

Predicting foundations efficiency: a revolutionary breakthrough

Traditionally, evaluating foundations efficiency has been a time-consuming and expensive process, involving testing on a panel of volunteers to assess parameters such as color variation, skin evenness, dullness, and shine. Although we were able to standardize the process, there was still a risk that some formulas would be rejected due to significant differences in these characteristics.

CIDP and Microfactory took up this challenge by developing new and innovative methodologies to predict the effectiveness of foundations faster, more cost-effectively and more accurately. Through their partnership, they have managed to establish a strong link between in vitro and in vivo studies, paving the way for more effective evaluation of cosmetic products.

Microfactory’s U-Skin™ Technology: A Revolution in the Industry

The U-Skin™ technology developed by Microfactory is based on a revolutionary microfluidic skin model. It simulates sebum and perspiration secretions under a controlled flow, providing a predictive method for evaluating foundation performance. This in vitro approach can be performed in less than three hours, significantly reducing the time required for product evaluation.

The Transition to In Vivo: A Global Approach

In vivo testing takes place under controlled conditions, where standardized amounts of foundation are applied to the face. Pre- and post-application 2D images, captured using advanced imaging systems, are evaluated by experts. This comprehensive approach provides accurate qualitative data on parameters such as skin evenness, color evolution, shine and mattness.

Leaders speak out

Microfactory’s CEO, Fabrice Monti, welcomes this groundbreaking partnership: “At Microfactory, our goal is to provide innovative solutions for the cosmetics industry. This collaboration with CIDP allows us to achieve this goal by providing a faster and more cost-effective method of evaluating the effectiveness of foundations, opening up new opportunities for our industry.”

CIDP CEO Claire Blazy Jauzac said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Microfactory to revolutionize the evaluation of cosmetic products. This innovative in vitro approach adds to our services, saving our customers time and costs while maintaining high standards of efficiency.”

A promising future

CIDP and Microfactory are proud to announce that the first experiments on three long-lasting foundations have shown a significant correlation between the results obtained with the in vitro model and clinical studies. This breakthrough paves the way for more accurate evaluation of cosmetic products, while reducing costs and lead times.
