Return from IFSCC Congress in Barcelona, the messages to remember

Thank you for this great edition of the IFSCC Congress in Barcelona !

The conference sessions of these 3 days were fantastic with a lot of innovation, new concept !

I was delighted to meet colleagues and friends from all over the world, and follow the latest trends in the beauty industry. Thank you everyone for the very interesting conferences and posters and the wonderful organization !

 

The conference sessions of these 3 days were fantastic with a lot of innovation, new concepts and new trials to rethink the science of Beauty, and its relationship with Nature. The keynote lectures were great moments specially those focused on emotional transformation, sensory inclusion, holistic Beauty, or age reversal.

The IFSCC congress is the right place to meet colleagues from all over the world, and to follow the latest trends in the beauty industry.

The conference sessions of these 3 days were fantastic with prestigious speakers, John JiménezBelcorp, Aurelie Porcheron– CHANEL, Dr Nadine Pernodet-The Estée Lauder. , Franck BONNIER-LVMH, Kwezikazi Molamodi, PhD-L’Oréal, MORGAN DOS SANTOS-LabSkin Creations, Nao Ishizuki (Tsurumi)-Kosé, Elsa Jungman, Ph.D.– HelloBiome, Aline ROBERT-HAZOTTE– Shiseido, among the 80 other ones presenting technological innovations, new concepts and new trials to rethink the science of Beauty, and its relationship with Nature.

John Jimenez, Belcorp lecture about “Sensory inclusion in cosmetics: Future perspectives that will inspire innovation”, was an interesting vision about the add of music in holistic approach and showed excellent perspectives for innovation in musical cosmetics for more inclusivity in the beauty world. It also explores the thematic of the implicit evaluation versus the explicit one and focus on 3 axes of neurosensory : attention, memory and emotions. What can we say about the evaluation of the perceived age ? How to integrate a real conscious of inclusivity.

Then Aline Robert-Hazotte, Shiseido, who won one of the 3 awards of the congress present the way to evaluate the contagion of positive emotions, through the induction of positive video and using a body tee-shirt  to collect the body odor. It show different effect on the contagion when considering the type of relationship (couple/room-mate).

 

The Keynote of Dr Kentaro Kajiya, Shiseido explains how the capillary density can influence the skin elasticy and how Optical Coherence Tomography with angiography can help to quantify this phenomena. regarding perceptions Skin connect to the inner body. We have more potential to become holistic people wuth the thousands of connections between the skin and the brain.

For the conferences

We were able to note some trends in the testing conferences.

 

 Among the 53 conferences dedicated or linked to the evaluation of actives of finished products, 29 of them concerned clinical testing, and 22 ones concerned preclinical testing. 

The following claims were the most talked about:

  • 15 about Aging and Regeneration
  • 7 about Acne, Sebum, Lipids and Sweat
  • 6 about Well-being, emotions or perceeptions

Skincare was a trending topic, with 39 conferences concerning it, against 8 conferences concerning haircare.

Companies presenting the conferences came from all over the world:

  • 27 from Europe
  • 18 from Asia
  • 7 from North America
  • 1 from South America

Regarding the evaluation of cosmetics, the conference presented by Pedro Pinto Contreiras, PhD Trials, adresses an innovative study regarding  “Skin dynamic firmness: a new evaluation method using High Speed Cameras and kinematic analysis”.

 

Moreover, the lecture by Georg Wiora, Courage+Khazaka “Ultrasensitive impedance spectroscopy to replace the Draize eye test” gave a new perspective for alternative methods to respect the 3R principle principles of no animal testing.

For the posters

We were able to note some trends in the testing posters as well.

Among the 120 posters dedicated or linked to the evaluation of actives of finished products, 78 of them concerned clinical testing, and 38 others concerned preclinical testing.

The following topics were the most talked about:

  • 12 about skin model,
  • 11 about I.A.
  • 15 about ethnicities

Only 8 posters were about haircare testing, whereas 48 posters directly concerned skincare evaluation.

Companies presenting the posters came from all over the world:

  • 55 from Europe
  • 2 from Africa
  • 35 from Asia
  • 12 from North America
  • 7 from South America

Discovering the posters during the 3 days and talking with posters speakers help to learn more about testing trends in the beauty industry. It is a really enriching experience.

This IFSCC congress is one of the best moment in the year. It mix science panorama, business connection, sympathetic social event to relax. Moreover it is a fabulous way to think out of the box.
