When one of the founders of Lemma Labs reached out to me to review his brand new Hair ID test ($ 198) I found that interesting, but what would I really learn? I already know my ends have been badly damaged by heat and chemicals, and I know I have thick, italic curls. What I didn’t know, however, is that there is a scientific guide to hair care that I can follow based on my specific strands.
In other words, just because a particular shampoo is made with top-notch ingredients and has been loved by reviewers, doesn’t mean it will suit me best. I mean, I already knew that, but I was actually shocked at what ingredients I was advised to stay away from.
And we’re not talking about the realities like parabens and sulfates. When I got my results, I was actually told to stay away from shea butter, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil, and jojoba oil, among others, in my conditioners and styling products. I also learned that my scalp is only slightly greasy and my hair has low porosity (which is good – yay!).
