Beiersdorf is making a big bet on innovative skin care and Asian markets. The company has opened a new research & innovation center in Shanghai to bolster its skin care expertise for China and emerging markets.
The 83,000+ square-foot facility is the largest Beiersdorf operation outside of Hamburg, Germany, where it has its global headquarters. The Shanghai R&I Center cost about 10 million euros and employs 100. Located in downtown Shanghai, there’s plenty of room for research and to welcome end-users, according to the company.
Prior to this opening, for more than a decade Beiersdorf used its R&D facility in Wuhan, China for local innovation. The new facility’s location will enable the company to work more closely with research institutes, suppliers and consumers, according to company executives.
