Dia-Stron’s innovative hair and skin instruments on display at In-Cosmetics Global this April

28 March 2022

Dia-Stron are excited to be returning to In-Cosmetics Global in Paris from 5-7 April on stand S111! The Dia-Stron team including Managing Director Yann Leray and Application Manager Dr Rebecca Lunn will be on-hand to discuss how our range of single hair fibre, hair tress and skin measurement instruments can boost the authority of your product and appliance claims.

Dia-Stron are the leading manufacturer of innovative, automated measurement systems for single hair fibres and tresses. Our instrumentation can be found in the R&D laboratories of multinational organisations, local companies, universities and CROs, from developing new hair care ingredients and technologies to evaluating technical performance of new formulations and advancing hair fibre science. Quantitative data acquired from Dia-Stron instruments can also provide an evidence-based claims support package, substantiating claims referring to the efficacy, benefits or improvements in hair attributes as a result of using your hair care products and appliances.

We’ll be demonstrating our versatile fibra.one; an all-in-one solution for hair tress and single fibre measurements. The fibra.one has a range of quick-change accessories, enabling multiple tress testing methods to support product claims such as “ease of combing”, “conditioning”, “damage repair”, “softness” and “hold” among others. Hair tress testing methods correlate well to consumer-perceivable claims such as “smoothness”, “softness” and “manageability” and are relatable to how a consumer interacts with their hair (touch, combing etc.). These predominantly focus on how products influence surface characteristics and how fibres interact with each other, which are well suited to products that remain on the outside of the hair. Single fibre dimensional and tensile data obtained using the single fibre accessories can be used to support “strengthening” claims and to assess the effects of penetrating ingredients.

Alongside the popular fibra.one, we’ll be showcasing our skin measurement solutions – the BLS780 Ballistometer and TLS850 Translucency Meter.

Using novel techniques, Ballistometer measurements provide data suited to “elasticity”, “firmness”, “hydration”, “anti-ageing” and cellulite product claims. Based on the ballistometric principle of impacting an object at a constant force, firmness is measured by indentation and dynamic resilience is measured by the degree of rebound. The instrument is non-gravity dependant, perfect for small, inaccessible test sites, and allows the user to define the amount of energy put into the skin so that different layers can be studied.

The Translucency Meter assesses how light interacts with the skin structure and pigmentation, absorption levels and sub-surface scattering phenomena. The fibre optic faceplate measures how light is absorbed and scattered within the skin structure itself. The TLS850 is ideal for measuring skin translucency, skin aging and supporting “radiance” product claims, generating an Erythema and Melanin index and assessing the coverage of foundations/powders.
