Pr Michel MANFAIT, former head of a CNRS Research Unit at the Pharmacy School of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, works together with DERMATEC, center of expertise on cutaneous biometrology from CPP-initiatives, on its incentive to innovate.
Pr MANFAIT has specifically developed in vivo Raman confocal spectroscopy that enables the acquisition of molecular images at a cell/tissue level and provides valuable informations on the skin hydrolipidic film.
Pr MANFAIT founded M-Conseil in May 2018, a consulting firm that works with companies willing to use in vivo Raman. He also works closely with Dr Mohammed ESSENDOUBI and the BioSpecT Unit from University of Reims and provides consulting and expertise in innovative projects involving in vivo Raman technology.
Using non-invasive measurements, in vivo Raman microspectroscopy allows to characterize molecular structure and to highlight the reinforcement of the skin barrier function of a cosmetic product following a mechanical stress (i.e. strippings) on healthy volunteers. It also enables to follow the restoration of skin barrier on volunteers with impaired skin, like those suffering from Atopic Dermatitis.
Thus, it makes possible to calculate stratum corneum (SC) thickness, evaluate skin hydration and characterize lipid and protein molecular markers.
