Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical and Hygienic skin products Clinical Evaluation Lab by DermaLab
22 June 2021
Why is testing necessary?
Regarding skin and hair care products, evaluating the efficacy, is usually based on the qualitative indicators such as physicians’ judgment, patient satisfaction and subjective evaluation of improvement, using before and after intervention photos. Standardization of qualitative assessment is tough and the assessment methods are not justifiable in scientific research.
Moreover the cosmetics industry is continually launching new products with different claims, which need to be supported by robust evidence and also be tested for their skin-tolerance levels, as a part of clinical studies.
Overcoming these challenges new technologies and the science of skin biometry have enabled us to quantitatively assess biophysical parameters of hair and skin.
What does DermaLab do?
Aiming to provide standard services to cosmetics industry, research centers, dermatologists and patients, DermaLab was established in February 2010 in Center for Research and Training in Skin Diseases and Leprosy (CRTSDL).
The offered services include, consultation, research project development, in vivo efficacy and safety tests, pre-clinical and microbial quality control tests as well as training courses in fields of cosmetics and cutaneous biometrology.
DermaLab is the only MOH FDA approved center
Certainly, all studies are carried out according to the regulations of the Cosmetics regulation and under dermatological control. We are guided by studies for pharmaceuticals and their Good Clinic Practice (GCP). The focus is on the protection of the test persons and their informed, written agreement and the quality of the study results. Accordingly DermaLab is the only MOH FDA approved for standardization of pharmaceutical, cosmeceutical and hygienic products, medical devices and equipment in terms of their efficacy and skin-tolerance. This might facilitate the process of importing and obtaining the relevant licenses in the country.
DermaLab services cover all steps of a clinical study including:
- Medical consultation
- Development of protocol, patient’s information note, written informed consent, Case reporting forms (CRF), etc.
- Physico-chemical analysis and microbial quality control tests
- Objective and subjective clinical assessments
- Data entry and statistical analysis
- Clinical and technical reporting
- Submission of scientific articles to peer reviewed journals
Several safety tests can be performed in DermaLab including:
- Patch Test & Photo Patch Test
- Repeated Open Application Test
- Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT)
- Safety in use
- Non comedogenicity test
DermaLab offers a broad range of biometric tests for efficacy assessment of cosmeceutical and hygienic skin products
Employing new technologies as well as highly qualified staff, we offer a broad range of assessments listed below. The tests are useful for evaluating moisturizers, cleansers, soaps, anti-acne, anti-aging, anti-cellulite and lightening preparations as well as hair care products (shampoos, conditioners, anti-hair loss and anti-dandruff products).
- Simple and specialized skin photography
- Quantitate measurement of skin biophysical parameters including water content , melanin and erythema index, trans epidermal water loss (TEWL), pH, sebum level, friction and elasticity
- Skin color and its homogeneity
- Assessment of skin wrinkles, pores and spots
- Skin surface microscopy (Dermotoscopy)
- Skin high frequently ultrasound
- Hair analysis and assessment of scalp dandruff
- Assessments of acne lesions
Dermalab projects led to high quality scientific publications
DermaLab wants, its test results, generate added value for industries, research centers, dermatologists and patients and also be easily understood and traceable. Lists of our publications is available in DermaLab official website.
