SCCS reexamination concerning the skin lightening ingredients and arbutine by Expertox

In 2016, In 2016 the SCCS considered the use of alpha-arbutin safe for consumers in cosmetic products in a concentration up to 2% in face creams and up to 0,5% in body lotions.
The topics are still under evaluation, with some toxicological profiles missing.
Therefore, the Eureopean Commission is currently reconsidering the use of these two molecules widely used in cosmetics. Indeed, they produce Hydroquinone a substance that has already been banned in cosmetics. Further research is therefore needed to ensure consumer safety.
