The most popular claims, Skinobs report January-June 2023
9 October 2023
The SKINOBS half-yearly statistical report provides insights into the trends and evolution of research themes in the cosmetic testing sector.
The report is based on extensive referencing of laboratories, methods, devices, requests, and studies, drawing from the searches conducted by over 5,000 users across 66 nationalities.
In clinical tests, the report highlights a surge in consumer tests, with hydration being a prominent theme, constituting almost half of the claims searched. The demand for skincare addressing the skin barrier has also notably increased, reflecting a post-COVID trend. The hygiene segment has gained prominence, likely due to the heightened focus on hygiene post-pandemic. Conversely, anti-aging claims have seen a decline, with preferences shifting towards soothing, anti-inflammatory, and sensitive skin claims.
Consumer tests are gaining traction, making up a substantial portion of the research conducted. Tolerance tests and consumer tests have witnessed an increase, attributed to the neurosensory trend and advancements in digital technology facilitating precise recruitment of volunteers and adherence to regulatory requirements.
In preclinical tests, a variety of claims have surfaced, with no single claim dominating the searches. Notably, claims related to phototoxicity, blue light protection, anti-pollution, and barrier function have gained prominence, reflecting increasing awareness of environmental exposure. The traditional claim of anti-aging remains significant, incorporating various sub-claims and utilizing advanced biometrology technologies for validation.
The report sheds light on the evolving landscape of cosmetic testing, providing valuable guidance to brands and stakeholders in the industry, aiding them in aligning their product development strategies with emerging consumer demands and preferences.
The cosmetics industry has historically prioritized consumer, biometrological, and scientific assessments to align with the imperative of innovation. Testing technologies form the bedrock of product innovation, enhancing marketing and communication standards.
They extend the boundaries of product claims and elevate expectations regarding product efficacy. The defining factors of cosmetic products include active ingredients, formulation, and the comprehensive proposition, contingent upon substantiated claims.
