At SYRES, the growth of the Pet Care sector is opening new ground for evaluation science.
Our challenge is not to adapt human protocols to dogs and cats, but to build approaches that account for the animal itself — its behaviour, its physiology, its environment — alongside the owner’s perception.
This calls for a new generation of protocols, combining instrumental measurement, veterinary expertise, behavioural observation, in-home usage tests and non-invasive alternatives to conventional testing.
In this approach, the animal is no longer a “test subject”: it is a user whose experience has to be understood without ever being able to ask.
This is the central scientific challenge of Pet Care testing.
