1.Neurosciences sensory

a. As per its offer on customized scientific methodologies on sensory and neurosciences to prove the benefits of fragrances in cosmetics which bring / enhance positive emotions, The Smell & Taste Lab has this year worked on multiple projects with, amongst others, a work on the “Impacts of sensory multimodality congruence and familiarity with short use on cosmetic product evaluation» exploring the congruence between the experience of texture and olfactory descriptors and the congruence between olfactory experience and tactile descriptors. This work was complemented by another one on “multimodal sensory and emotions”. The two papers have been respectively presented at Congress’ IFSCC22 & ECRO22.

2.Digital Olfaction

The Smell & Taste Lab has proudly participated on October 12th, 2022, in the Digital Olfaction Summit hosted by Aryballe. The Summit aimed at exploring “the impact of digital olfaction in industries from food, flavor, and fragrances to automotive.”
Amongst the guests’ speakers such as IFF, Antique Candle or Mann+Hummel talking about how digital olfaction can be used to steer rapid growth. Anne Abriat has presented How Digital Olfaction can bring Innovation for Beauty & Health.

with new applications examples inspired by other industries such as medical and pharma domains where VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) are already used for disease diagnostic

  1. This topic is Innovations driven with multiple applications in Health & Beauty such as nose sensors – devices for Health diagnostic and for Beauty emotions.
  2. The challenges are data collection and analysis in their quantity and complexity.

3.Olfactive training

COVID-19 pandemic has led to an extensive number of patient suffering from a disabling olfaction loss. For some of them, a long Covid has been diagnosed with lasting symptoms and retrieving their olfactory senses takes time.

Through a study on Olfaction Training developed by Anne Abriat with a renowned professor in Germany, it was shown that olfactory training can allow to recover olfaction senses at a faster pace.

To this end, The Smell & Taste Lab has started an activity on olfactive training. Training cognitive olfaction allows to project ourselves into our olfactory heritage and learn to develop or redevelop our sense of smell, as well as to awaken our olfactory senses. Resulting in a more acute olfactory sense, new nose and new emotional responses. This contributes to a better life quality, better food, more sensory sensations & more taste for life.

4.The Smell & Taste Lab news
