Complife Innovative Approach to Skin Evaluation

15 April 2022

on Tuesday 5th April at 12:40 am – Theatre 2

The biomechanical properties of the skin bring together the notions of elasticity, firmness, tone, suppleness, in particular by studying the way in which the skin reacts to a stress at varying depths depending on the choiced method (Stratum Corneum, Epidermis, Jonction Dermo -Epidermal or reticular dermis (collagen, elastin)). These dynamic measurements make it possible to objectively quantify the age of the skin.

This seminar will be an opportunity to make a review of the methods allowing the measurement of the biomechanical properties of the skin by widely used methods as well as innovative methods.

Agnès Lavoix joined the COMPLIFE group after having created DERMATECH, today the French subsidiary of the group specializing in the development of new skin exploration techniques and dermo-cosmetic clinical studies on medical devices. Agnès has 23 years of experience in the field of skin biometrology and clinical research and is working for large accounts to provide advice on the relevance of cosmetic objectification methods.

Complife is an international group that provides consulting and testing services for different markets.

With a long history dedicated to the cosmetics market, the Complife team can boast high expertise, in depth studies and very innovative instruments to evaluate different skin types.

One of the latest devices to test the skin and obtain in depth images – parallel or perpendicular to the surface, in 2D or 3D – of its different layers and cells is the Line-field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT)  by Damae Medical; a medical imaging technique that uses a light wave to capture three-dimensional images of biological tissues in real time, by combining the principles of confocal reflectance microscopy (RCM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

This technology allows to explore and analyze the different layers of Skin (SC, epidermis, DEJ, dermis) in terms of thickness of the layers, composition (diversification of keratinocytes, undulation of junction, collagen network…), in contexts of healthy skin, skin aging or after different types of stimuli.

Complife’s team has also a wide knowledge of the measurement of the biomechanical properties of the skin, parameters really important in the skin aging evaluation.

Thanks to new data issued from some exploratory studies, the company can bring a new approach to the well-known cutometer device (C&K) or new other prototypes as Underskin, developped by the team of Pr Hassan Zahouani in LTDS and Central School of Lyon or Easystiff developed by the French start up Biomeca.

The research continues into the group to obtain and explore data in order to improve the interpretation of the skin visco-elasticity and supporting tissues corresponding to the architecture of the skin.

This topic has been further developed by Dermatech COO Agnès Lavoix @InCosmetics global speech and will be touched again during the post event webinar.

Finally, as there is an evolving interest and focus in developing products that respect or improves the skin microbiome but relatively little information is available on the composition of the healthy microbiome of the human face, Complife’s team developed a study that could clarify the face skin structure and variations. This very interesting study can be found here : https://www.complifegroup.com/news/skin-microbiota-on-the-human-face-the-study/

All these innovations make Complife the best partner to help customers elevate their business in the cosmetics market.
