Human skin is a complex and dynamic ecosystem inhabited by a multitude of microorganisms, collectively referred to as the skin microbiota. The genomes of organisms present on the skin surface are referred to as the skin microbiome. The investigation of skin microbiome by NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) techniques allows us to identify all the bacterial genes present at a given time, their relative proportion and, in turn characterize the skin microbiota.

Dr. Marco Piacentini, Managing Director of Eurofins Cosmetics & Personal Care Italy

Dr. Marco Piacentini has a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at Polytechnic of Milan where he was awarded with an academic prize for Catalysis. Dr. Piacentini then obtained a PhD in Technical Science from ETH in Zurich where he published 8 papers in global peered reviewed journals about Heterogeneous DeNOx Catalysis. Following his academicals and research career, Dr. Piacentini achieved an MBA at Bocconi Business school in Milan. He then devoted himself to the Cosmetic Industry where he was enrolled as Director for Innovation, for Quality & Development in different managerial position in manufacturing companies prior to joining Eurofins. He is now the Managing Director for Eurofins Cosmetics & Personal Care in Italy. Dr. Piacentini has a distinguished bend for research applied to the industry and a proven ability to convert research into business opportunities.
