Are you Ready for the Future in-vitro SPF Double Plate Method? by Helioscreen (now Weneos)

Recently, Cosmetics Europe published the new note N°26 on the use of alternative methods to in vivo SPF ISO 24444:2019.

Concerning the in vitro SPF double plate method which is under progression at the ISO level (ISO/DRAFT 23675) with a publication target date as early as 2025, Cosmetics Europe “strongly recommend that CE members and the test laboratories with whom they work familiarize themselves with them [editor’s note: including in vitro SPF double plate] as soon as possible so that, prior to the publication of the final ISO standards, they may be considered as alternative SPF in vivo tests to ISO24444:2019.”

This new in vitro method requires specific consumables, appliances and training to be able to fulfil the reproducibility and accuracy criteria (i.e. correlation with the in vivo SPF values) for the assessment of photoprotection effectiveness of sunscreen products in a reliable manner.

Based on its long experience and expertise in this field, HelioScreen already proposes this in-vitro SPF double plate method (ref. HeSPF-4) since many years in our laboratory.

In addition, we can help you by supplying consumables and training:

  • Molded PMMA plates HD6
  • Sandblasted PMMA plates SB6
  • Equipment: automated robotic spreading HD-SPREADMASTER
  • UV test process training sessions.
