Types of Sources

Anti-UV protocols by Pixience

An UV ray exposure too important has bad effects for skin (dryness, premature ageing, erythema) and in the long term, is dangerous for health (tumor, cancer). That’s why an optimal skin’s protection against UV is necessary. Sunlight is the main source of UV ray. However, there is also artificial sources like some lamp or industrial equipment. With the C-Cube 3 and its C-Cube CR, measure the effectiveness of your anti-UV products.

Pigmentation: Phototype and ITA

ITA allows to classify skin’s types according to their phototypes. Expressed in degrees, it valor can vary from -90° for dark skins to +70° for light skins. Unlike the phototype classification, the ITA measurement can show very small variations of complexion or pigmentation.

Define different phototypes of you studies subjects maximise the value of your clinical results. Indeed, UV resistance can vary from a phototype to another.

Pigmentation Index

UV exposure can affect melanin production and, as a result, brown spots or discoloration may appear with age. Skin bleaching is a cosmetic treatment to reduce the prominence of skin discolorations and even out the color of the skin.

The pigmentation index is correlated with melanin content of the skin. The index is defined as the distance to a reference dark skin which maximizes melanin content. The calculation is done for each pixel and the result is displayed using a color map. Using ROI, the average, minimum and maximum values are processed and saved.

Erythema

The inflammatory response because of a too long UV ray exposure can caracterise itself with skin redness. From the standard CIE L*a*b* measurements given by the C-Cube for every pixel, we define a specific severity parameter that can be used to grade erythema. This index can be displayed with a blue/red color map to localize and illustrate the erythema.
