PhD Trials & Boost Your Test – the best place to talk about testing in-cosmetics Global 2025

31 March 2025

PhD Trials, one of the leading CROs for performing in vivo studies with cosmetic products and raw materials for the cosmetic industry, will be presenting new test protocols at In Cosmetics Global in Amsterdam, in April.

The new protocols will mainly focus on longevity, skin composition, soothing and sensitive skin and dynamical evaluation.

The longevity studies developed by PhD Trials are focused not only on the macroscopic effects of the ageing process (evaluated by the last state of the art 2D and 3D systems), but can also target the viable epidermis, with new calculations of cellular shapes and identification of senescent cells on Stratum Granulosum and now, on Stratum spinosum, anticipating the effects of cellular degeneration before they be visible.

Skin composition procedures will also be presented using the last generation of In vivo Raman Spectroscopy, where accumulated experience and new analytes can now be quantified, particularly some targeting Advanced Glycation End products (AGE), Luminosity and Collagen. With the new more advanced Stratum Corneum model, allowing a more specific quantification, and a very advanced way of calculating water on the skin, we can now perform a set of quantifications that can complement the macroscopic effects and link the effectiveness of the products to a real modification in a specific analyte.

For objectivation of the effect of movement on the skin we developed new calculations for studies involving High Speed Cameras, particularly the calculation of a new parameter – skin frequency. This new parameter would be an important aspect on the development of longevity prevention studies.

Additionally, a new algorithm developed with Artificial Intelligence will be presented for calculation of skin and eye age in human subjects, combining images and biomechanical data to obtain a more accurate result.

Finally, we would like to announce that PhD Trials has opened a new Research lab for performing advanced studies with all the more recent technology including a new AEVA-He2, a new confocal microscope, a new VISIA CR with Primos and all the other typical advanced equipment that are characteristic of PhD Trials.
