A research group from a Spanish university in collaboration with hospitals have developed a biomaterial for fabricating artificial tissue and membranes with the advantage that its stiffness and elasticity can be controlled. The group is looking for companies interested in licensing this technology.
Tissue Engineering is an emerging area of biomedicine in which, by using cells, growing factors and biomaterials new artificial tissue is created for restoring, substituting or increasing the functional activities of the organic tissues.The biomaterials used in tissue engineering must accomplish a number of prerequisites such as biocompatibility, no toxicity, chemically and mechanically stability, porous and, in some cases, biodegradability or reabsorbible properties.

These artificial tissue and membranes have the advantage that its stiffness and elasticity can be controlled since they have physical and reologic properties (resistance, elasticity, malleability, stitchabiliy, operability) that enable it to substitute the native human tissues with higher effectivity than the biomaterials and artificial tissues currently available.
The research group is looking for companies interested in licensing this technology.
