China’s National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) has opened a public consultation on three draft alternative testing methods for cosmetic ingredients and products. The deadline for comment is 28 November.
The 12 November notice covers five test methods, of which three are alternative test methods. These are:
The other two draft methods cover pH testing and an in vivo mammalian alkaline comet assay, which is used to evaluate DNA damage in cells.
If approved, the five methods will be added to the cosmetic safety and technical guidelines and can be used for the registration and filing of cosmetic products and new cosmetic ingredients.
