Vibiosphen – Acne is also down to the microbiota! via ZOOM#36

Acne isn’t just skin-deep. This complex, widespread condition takes a heavy toll on young adults’ self-esteem and social confidence. A robust body of empirical evidence has firmly established that the microbiota influences the development of acne, primarily through a state of imbalance (dysbiosis). This dysbiosis is characterised by the predominance of certain phylotypes of Cutibacterium acnes, which disrupts skin homeostasis by upsetting its balance with Staphylococcus epidermidis. Furthermore, although the exact role of the Malassezia genus remains unclear, it would nevertheless appear to contribute to the pathophysiology of acne. Moreover, it is important to note that the interactions between the microorganisms involved in acne are not limited to the skin: the gut microbiota also plays a crucial role. Thus, understanding the role of the skin microbiome opens new avenues for the treatment and prevention of acne and other skin pathology.
