Microbiome studies help us understand the real impact of each formulation on the skin. When assessing whether a product is microbiome friendly, we are not looking to sterilize the skin’s surface, but rather to ensure that microbial communities maintain their natural diversity and balance.
To measure this compatibility, we culture general bacteria and key species such as Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE), an essential beneficial resident, and Staphylococcus aureus (SA), whose overgrowth can lead to alterations. In addition, fungal cultures provide a comprehensive view of the ecosystem. This analysis makes it possible to determine whether a product respects and coexists harmoniously with the microbiota, protecting the biological barrier without disrupting its natural defenses.
