Amorepacific Achieves Net-Zero Target Approval from SBTi via Amore Stories

15 July 2024

Amorepacific announced that it has obtained approval for its 2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets and 2050 Net-Zero1 targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global initiative. In Korea, only six companies2, including Amorepacific, have received net-zero target approval in accordance with SBTi standards.

The SBTi, established jointly by the world’s leading climate-change related organization, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), as well as the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2015, presents reduction target standards to achieve the goal of limiting the average global temperature increase to 1.5°C, based on reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the International Energy Agency (IEA). It is a global initiative that verifies companies’ short- or long-term net-zero targets. Through SBTi approval, Amorepacific has ensured the objectivity of its greenhouse gas reduction and net-zero targets.

Amorepacific plans to achieve net-zero by reducing its total greenhouse gas direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from electricity and other purchases (Scope 2) by 48.9% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, compared to 2020 levels. Additionally, Amorepacific plans to reduce the most significant portion of its other indirect emissions (Scope 3), which include emissions from purchased goods and services and emissions from product disposal by customers, by 25% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, compared to 2020 levels.
