As the global microbiome market surges, the French deeptech startup, founded at the end of 2023, aims to
revolutionize cosmetic personalization with a scientific, accessible, and 100% made-in-France approach.
Byome Labs, a specialist in in vitro skin microbiome analysis, has announced a €3.6 million fundraising round.
This financing, led by Remora Biotech, Paris Business Angels, Angels Santé, and strategic business angels, will
support the industrialization of its breakthrough solution: Byome Derma, a simple, ultra-rapid skin test that
recommends the right skincare based on each individual’s unique microbiome.
« Scientific innovation only matters if it can serve the many. With this fundraising, we are scaling up to the industrial
level and offering brands a new standard of instant skincare recommendations, based on biological data rather than
guesswork » said David Suissa, Founder & CEO of Byome Labs.
A disruptive technology in a saturated market
Consumers today face thousands of cosmetic references without truly knowing what suits their skin. Byome
Labs brings a groundbreaking solution. In a rapidly structuring global microbiome market, forecast to grow 22%
annually and reach $3.5 billion by 2030 (source: Global Market Insights 2024), no existing solution has provided
a simple, reliable way to measure the microbiome in a retail context.
Byome Derma is changing the game by enabling:
- Skin microbiome sampling and measurement within minutes, directly at the point of sale,
- Microbial diversity analysis via antigenic strips (similar to COVID tests),
- Product recommendations powered by dermatologist-trained AI,
- All without devices, without pain, and at an affordable cost
A new strategic tool for cosmetic brands
Revolutionary in its approach, Byome Derma targets both mass-market brands aiming to democratize
personalization and ultra-premium beauty houses focused on customer experience, service, and loyalty.
« Today, nearly 40% of skincare products sold are not suited to the skin of those who purchase them (Journal of
Dermatological Science, 2024). The direct consequences: skin imbalances, lost loyalty, and over $450 billion
worth of cosmetics wasted globally each year. Byome Derma wants to change this by making product selection
evidence-based from the very beginning, » summarized David Suissa.
By integrating Byome Derma at the point of sale, brands gain a powerful lever to:
- Reduce waste by matching the right product to the right customer,
- Enhance the retail experience with a high-value-added service,
- Feed their R&D with a unique microbiome database.
From cutting-edge research to customer experience
Founded at the end of 2023, Byome Labs relies on:
- A state-of-the-art in vitro microbiology lab in Clermont-Ferrand, with 5,000 microbiomes sequenced
and more than 200 cosmetic products tested and indexed, - An R&D center at the heart of Cosmetic Valley in Chartres,
- A team of 17 experts (microbiologists, biochemists, data scientists, engineers, marketing and regulatory
specialists), - A unique strain collection, including yeasts such as Malassezia and bacteria in both biofilm and
planktonic forms, - A proprietary AI that matches microbial profiles with product compatibility
The company is co-developing this revolutionary solution with several French and international skincare brands.
An “Intel Inside” model for the cosmetics of tomorrow
Byome Derma is designed to integrate as a white-label solution within retail environments, allowing cosmetic
and dermo-cosmetic brands to deliver a hyper-personalized customer experience validated by robust scientific
data. It provides a scientific alternative to empirical recommendations or influencer trends, in a market shifting
toward greater transparency, sustainability, premiumization, and personalization.
In parallel, Byome Labs actively contributes to shaping the sector. Together with Cosmetic Valley, the company
is leading a consortium of industry players, laboratories, and researchers to define future microbiome testing
standards and establish a common regulatory framework.
Next milestones
- Industrial production of the first Byome Derma kits: end of 2025
- International deployment (Europe, U.S., Asia): from 2026
